Maranatha College does not discriminate in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, sponsorship or scholarship programs, housing programs, mentoring or advisor programs, planned leisure activities or any other school-administered programs.

The Deans’ Review of Requirements

A student that does not meet the specific criteria for admission to Maranatha College may make a formal request to have an admissions application reviewed by the Deans if the admissions criteria are close to being met. The Deans may grant the student a waiver for admission if they deem it appropriate. Each request of this nature is treated separately from all others, and all aspects of the application will be considered.

General Application Procedures

In selecting students for admission, Maranatha College seeks evidence of Christian commitment and character and the capacity and desire to learn. Students interested in the evangelical Christian perspective and biblical curriculum at Maranatha College and who demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy of education are eligible for consideration for admission. Although the promise of academic success and the personal Christian testimony of the applicant are of primary consideration, the aspirations of the applicant and the personal recommendation referrals are also considered in the admission decision.

Admission Procedures

Maranatha College admits qualified students, who have completed all application and registration materials and have been accepted by the Admissions Committee. Applicants are notified of the admission decision or request for a further admissions interview approximately two weeks after all admission materials have been received.

Medical Information Forms

The American College Health Association has recommended that all college students born after December 31, 1956, be given a second dose of measles, mumps, and Rubella vaccine (MMR). These vaccines should be obtained from the family physician prior to arrival on campus.

Students should have a complete physical examination, which includes the dates of an initial and a booster MMR, and the results of a PPD skin test (tuberculosis) done within the last year. All medical forms must be received by the Maranatha College Admissions Office to be placed in the student’s file, before students will be permitted to register for classes.

All readmitted students who have not been matriculated for over two years must file a completed Medical Information form.

Guidelines for Specific Applicants

Freshmen Students

Follow “General Application Procedures.”

Transfer Students

Follow “General Application Procedures” and be aware of the following: Admission to advanced standing is granted to students who have completed acceptable academic work in similar Christ-centered biblical studies attended successfully in person or by correspondence. All existing credits will be examined for the admission acceptance decision. Only credits which are applicable to the Maranatha College curriculum are fully accepted, provided such courses are completed with a grade point average of 2.00 or above. Transfer credits are not considered in the cumulative Maranatha College grade point average. Transfer credit evaluations are made available only to those students who have submitted all official transcripts, along with their completed application form and application fee. Transfer students must also submit an official transcript from each institution previously attended.

Applicants for Readmission

Students withdrawing from college for part of an academic term or longer must notify Maranatha College at least 20 days prior to registration for classes. In this case, there is no fee to reapply. In addition, transcripts of any academic work completed at another institution since attending Maranatha College are required if credit for those classes toward a Maranatha degree is desired. If a student has been absent for more than two years, a short application form and an updated Medical Information form must be submitted to the Admissions Office to be filed in the student’s file, prior to arrival on campus and registration.

Student-On-Leave Program

Full-time students, who find it necessary to break matriculation for one to three quarters due to finances or personal reasons, may apply for the Student-On-Leave Program. Students must apply for the program prior to the end of the term in which they are still enrolled. Students in this program may remain under their same catalog year and may also pre-register for the term for which they anticipate return. The Admissions Office will maintain contact with the student on leave and keep the student informed of special events, pre-registration and registration dates. Applications for the Student-On-Leave Program may be obtained in the Admissions Office.

Home-Schooled Students

Follow all of the “General Application Procedures.” All home-schooled students will be considered for admission based on these procedures, but should be ready to submit a G.E.D., or other documented evidence indicated that the student’s home-school experience has met their state law requirements.

Special Admission

The term special student is used to denote a student who is admitted under one of the following special circumstances:

1.       A college graduate who desires additional undergraduate work without receiving a Maranatha degree, or

2.       Any high school graduate wishing to take one or more classes out of personal interest but without working toward a degree.

Special students are not restricted to a specific curriculum. However, special students may not register as full-time students.

Full-time pastors, missionaries on furlough, and those 55 and over may register as a special student and take three courses per year at no charge, providing space is available.

International Students

English or Spanish Proficiency

Since all instruction, reading, and research is in English or Spanish, it is essential that all students be able to understand and speak English or Spanish fluently immediately upon arrival on campus. Those students who are accepted at Maranatha who lack the essential language ability may be placed on academic probation at Maranatha, so that they may study English or Spanish until they become more proficient. In order that the applicant’s proficiency in English or Spanish may be determined, a C average grade on the appropriate language test will be required for acceptance. There is no cost for taking this test.

Proof of Graduation

All international applicants are required to submit certified, translated copies of their High School or Secondary School (or their country’s equivalent) diplomas or certificates, or translated copies of any document similar to a G.E.D. (High School Equivalency) prior to consideration for admission.

Financial Responsibility

All applying international students must notify the Admissions Office of their financial situation in meeting the costs of an education at Maranatha College. Inability to cover tuition, board and meal expenses, and travel costs does not automatically mean that the student cannot attend Maranatha College. There is no guarantee of the current scholarships and sponsorships for tuition and expenses that will be available to assist international students.

Full-Time Status

International students admitted to the United States on an F-1 student visa are required by federal law to be registered as full-time students, carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of academic work per academic term. Students must be enrolled as full-time students for three consecutive academic terms before they can return to their native country for vacations or holidays.  Note:  This only applies to international students who study on campus.

Drug-Free Work Place Policy

In compliance with the drug-free work place requirements of the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act, the following policy is in effect for Maranatha College:

1.       Maranatha College provides a drug-free work place for its students and employees.

2.       The standards of Maranatha College clearly prohibit the use, unlawful possession, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees of the college.

3.       Maranatha College can make available local information for treatment, rehabilitation, or reentry programs.
